COMMON MISTAKES IN CHOOSING YOUR TV SET

Many people buy TV sets without planning ahead. They purchase right away only to find out there are some concerns regarding their TV set. And so, here are some common mistakes in choosing your TV set:

1. NOT CONSIDERING THE AVAILABLE SPACE

Now that new TVs have come into action, people are blinded by its big screens. Unfortunately they are not taking into consideration the space available in their room. Some people buy big screens right away, only to find out that their new television set is too big for the room and there’s no enough space for it. You may want to think about the available area first before buying one. Also add in your checklist the viewing distance from your TV set. Prolonged exposure to the TV that is too close can cause pain to your eyes and may inflict long term damage. It is relevant to find a most favorable viewing distance for your TV set.

2. NOT DOING ENOUGH RESEARCH

Viewing a TV with magnificent colors may deceive you. It may have an amazing picture quality but does not have other features what other TVs have. Buying TVs in the past is a lot simpler because it has few features. Now that new TVs are out in the market, new features are also incorporated in it. Sometimes we don’t even understand what the feature does. What does 1920×1080 means? or What does 240 Hz response time means? That’s why it’s necessary to do a research first before buying a TV so that you can understand about its features and compare it with other TVs in the market.

Doing research is not limited to understanding and knowing the TV’s features. You have to include in your research where to buy your TV set. You have to consider practicality. Weighing which is better in buying TV set through internet or market is an important consideration.

3. NOT COMPARING THE BRANDS AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET

SONY, SAMSUNG, LG, PANASONIC, and SHARP are few respectable brands that are successful in the market today. By respectable brands means their products have been tried and tested by many consumers and these consumers were satisfied with it. I’m not saying that you focus only on these brands. There are more brands in the market today. What is significant is you compare what the different brands offer. Sometimes, the TV from a popular company is more expensive than some TVs from other companies but they all have the same features. Be wise to compare TVs because the last thing you want to do is spend large bucks only to find out that your TV is lacking in features.

4. NOT CHECKING FOR AVAILABLE WARRANTIES

Usually, when we buy TVs, the company provides a one year warranty for their product. They also give extended warranties available for additional cost. Spending 200 to 300 bucks for a 4 year extended warranty doesn’t seem like a necessary option but the added warranty can be beneficial when something goes wrong with your TV. Well who wants to have a broken or damaged TV? No one! Right?! Extended warranty may come in handy so you may want to consider having one.

5. NOT CHECKING FOR NECESSARY INPUTS AND OUTPUT JACKS

One of the reasons why we want to buy a good television is we want to watch movie films like we’re in a theater. But do we check if our DVD player is compatible with the TV set we’re going to buy? You have to make sure you know what input jacks you need to hook up your accessories such as video cam, DVD player and audio system.  TVs may come with a combination of inputs and you need to know what you need in your TV to avoid regrets later.

6. NOT REGARDING QUALITY OVER PRICE

For consumers who are price conscious, the TV with the cheaper size is better than expensive TVs. But also remember the old saying, “you get what you pay for.” Just think about this: high quality television requires high quality materials. Therefore, you need to pay a high price to have an excellent television. Not all television shares the same build quality. So if you are going to buy an expensive TV with the hopes that it will last beyond its warranty, it’s a good action to buy a high quality TV than a cheaper one.
