WHY WE LOVE AND HATE LG55LH90 AT THE SAME TIME
Let’s face it. In every product, there will always be reasons why we want to give it a standing ovation and applause, and there will also always be reasons why we want to shout boos at it. So let’s take a view in this LG55LH90 and dissect every feature into tidbits.
Why We Love LG55LH90
In terms of contrast ratio, LG55LH90 is amazing in producing excellent black levels. It is capable of very high light output and it possesses accurate gamma settings which gives you an excellent contrast ratio. You don’t have to worry with regards to its setting because Medium gamma setting in the advanced menu measures a nearly perfect 2.2 curve. So what do we mean by this?  LG55LH90 has 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. By this, the blackest black of one image to the whitest white of another image at a different time is measured. This just means that images with predominantly bright parts and dark parts are well expressed with its dynamic contrast ratio. Thus, picture quality is improved giving you terrific and stunning colors in every image!
This TV is THX certified.  LG55LH90 has been given a certification by Lucasfilm. It ensures that sound quality and reproduction in either the theater or home is up to what was encoded on the media. THX is mainly a quality assurance system. With this, we can be sure that we are given a predictable playback environment that produces high quality sound. Any movie sound mixed in THX will sound as closely as possible to the purpose of the mixing engineer.
Let’s not forget about this TV’s color accuracy! This TV has a CMS or the Color Management System in place in the panel. It provides you a calibration for primary and secondary colors. You can also calibrate the grayscale and once it’s done, plus primary and secondary colors dialed in beautifully, the TV is able to reproduce a color that is accurate according to your liking.
The LG55LH90 has a local area dimming technology that makes it an impressive direct type of LED backlit LCD panel. You will have awesome blacks and overall color fidelity. Once this TV is calibrated properly, it gives you solid performance with its local dimming technology. It has some setup features in Expert 1 and Expert 2 modes which when memorized and locked become either ISF Day or ISF Night modes. With this, black level performance is always excellent.
In considering the price, it ranks number one because it costs cheaper than any other LCD TVs but it gives you superior picture quality. You can even make it compete with other expensive ones basing on the brilliant picture it delivers.
Why We Hate LG55LH90
Let’s see what this TV offers with its video processing. As much as we want to love this television, it carries some things that make us hate it. This TV has a judder reduction feature labeled with TruMotion. However, film based materials look decidedly jerky. It’s almost a camcorder. It is better that this feature is turned off for Blu-ray and all film based sources. This feature should only be used on Low for HD videos when watching sporting events.
SD Performance not so good. There have been split opinions regarding how well standard definition images are displayed. Â Some blooming light from bright objects seeping into dark backgrounds can be seen.
Poor viewing angles can’t be denied. Viewing angles are limited because the best picture quality is only reserved for those who are sitting directly in front of the screen. So if you are on the side, you would become a loser next to someone who enjoys the scene because he has a direct view of the television. Be sure to sit in front right at the center!
No interactive feature is included. It can be a major turn off for those who enjoy yahoo and YouTube widgets. No weather forecast and stock updates with these TV. Though some people are not particularly bothered by its absence, it makes this TV to be behind others who have widgets readily available.
No Ethernet connection. Most LCD TVs are capable of Ethernet connection but with this TV, we are sorry to say that the manufacturer did not include one. Sorry to burst your bubbles but you can’t enjoy the internet since no Ethernet port is available.
Buying something is always a gamble. Risks are always inevitable. But no matter what we do let’s be sure that we know what we really are doing. This TV has its best feature and its worst. But if you really want to buy this television, you must be willing to accept its flaws. But hey, let’s not feel bad about it. We want to buy something that gives us enjoyment so we better find it!
