Remember that time when your brand new television arrived in your home? How does it feel? Ecstatic, right? But no matter how amazed we are with our brand new television, there seems to be some questions regarding some of its features.

This article is dedicated to those people who have problems and inquiries regarding their Sony Plasma televisions. This article would specifically deal with inquiries related to its connectivity features.

When you DVI TO HDMI cable, will there be any loss in video quality?

• There is no video quality loss when using a Digital Video Interface to High Definition Multimedia Interface because both formats use digital signals.

What are the requirements for viewing DTV (Digital Television) Programming?

• Digital television programming is accessible over the air and from cable and satellite service providers.  Your television, set-top box, or VCR must be prepared with a built in digital tuner to receive free over the air digital broadcasts.
• You will need to connect a digital to analog converter box if it does not have a built in digital tuner. Otherwise you can subscribe to a satellite service provider or to a digital cable.
• NOTE: The KD27-FS170, KD32- FS170 and KD36- FS170 television models can receive digital programming through an antenna or a digital set-top box only. They cannot receive digital programming through a direct cable connection.

If my television does not have a digital connection input jack, can I view high definition programming?

• Yes, given that you have a digital tuner or digital set-top box, you can use any connection type to view high definition programming. But you will get a better quality picture using HDMI or Component cables.
• The specification “digital television” refers to the television’s capability of displaying a digital signal, and is not a reference to the connections available on the television.
• In addition to using high-quality connection cables, a number of other factors, including signal strength and the resolution of your television can affect your high-definition viewing experience.

What is the maximum length of cable that can be used to connect Audio/Video (A/V) products?

• It is hard to provide an exact number concerning the maximum cable length for connecting Audio/Video products. The general recommendation to use the shortest length of cable possible since longer cables can reduce signal strength and quality. it may be possible to use longer lengths although cable lengths of 3 to 6 feet are the most common.
• It is better to use a cable with low wire gauge rating (12 to 14) and one that provides shielding  if you are using longer cables. Less signal resistance is offered by cables with low wire gauge ratings while the shielding will minimize interference.
• It is important to note that you may require a signal amplifier or repeater if you are using cables longer than 30 feet.

How do you connect a cable box with digital or high definition?

• It is very similar to connecting a standard cable box to the television when you are connecting a digital or high definition cable box. The main difference is the type of cable you use to connect your equipment.
• You may have a variety of output jacks available to connect it to the television depending on the make and model of your cable box. Use the highest quality connection jacks available to take full advantage of high quality picture available with a digital or high definition cable signal.
• Digital connection cables – either HDMI or DVI – will provide the best quality picture, while component (Y/Pb/Pr) video cables provide the best-quality picture for an analog signal and are a good choice if your television does not have a digital input jack.
